There is no need to let arthritis sideline your physical fitness goals. But, if you have painful joints from arthritis, exercise may be the last thing you feel like doing.

Did you know that inactivity can make it worse?

Adding the right types of exercises to your fitness regime can strengthen the muscles around your joints, increase your flexibility, and keep you moving to improve your overall health. That’s where we come in.

At Apex, our personal trainers are experienced professionals who will work with you and your doctor to map out a fitness plan that works for you—that you can do at your own pace and within your abilities. We know you will have good days and bad days and will tailor your workout on the fly to accommodate any pain you are experiencing.

Here’s a glimpse into what you can expect from us:

The Warm-Up

Jumping into a workout without a proper warm-up is a bad idea for anyone, but especially for someone who suffers from arthritis. We take the time to condition your muscles and prepare your joints to ease you into your work out.

Killer Cardio

A good cardiovascular workout should aim to strengthen your heart and lungs and increase your endurance. It should also burn calories and aid in weight loss. But don’t think that arthritis means your aerobic training days are over. There are more ways to kill it at cardio than by pounding it out on a treadmill. We have a ton of non-weight bearing exercises in our arsenal that focus on large muscle groups to give you all the cardiovascular benefits without the joint pain.

Strength Training

Our goal in developing a resistance, or strength, training program for someone with arthritis is the same for anyone: to help strengthen your muscles. We start by dialing in on the muscle groups around your affected joints to help protect them and improve your stability. But we don’t stop there. All your muscle groups are invited to the party. We make the necessary modifications to ensure successful repetitions with pain-free range of motion.

Flexibility and Mobility

Since arthritis can affect your mobility and range of motion, flexibility training is critical. We focus on safe stretching exercises that address the areas that are affecting your range of motion—most commonly hamstrings, lower back, front of shoulder, and calves.
